The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) was founded in 1999 by Hasso Plattner, one of Europe's most successful tech entrepreneurs. Today, HPI is a leading academic institution dedicated to empowering the next generation of digital engineers, innovators, and entrepreneurs.
Hasso Plattner’s belief in the transformative power of technology and entrepreneurship is reflected in HPI's unique education approach, combining cutting-edge digital engineering with hands-on, real-world applications.
Hasso Plattner Institute & HPI d-school
The Hasso Plattner Institute, founded by Hasso Plattner in 1999, offers outstanding academic education and research that currently attracts over 700 Bachelor's and Master's students and 250 PhD students. With a focus on IT systems engineering, computer science, digital health, cyber security, and data engineering, HPI has produced more than 2,500 graduates to date. These students benefit from state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge research facilities, a growing interdisciplinary faculty of more than 50 professors and researchers, and 200 PhD students.
The HPI d-school at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam is a leading innovation hub that offers research, education, and training in human-centered problem-solving. Inspired by Stanford's d.school, the institution fosters creativity, teamwork, and agility to tackle complex challenges.
HPI Engine
HPI is also a significant hub for entrepreneurial and leadership empowerment. We accompany the future European tech leaders and form the nucleus of many tech startups founded by students, alums, and participants of HPI. More than 300 startups have emerged from the HPI ecosystem, generating over one billion euros in venture capital. This is a testament to Hasso Plattner’s legacy of empowering digital engineers to become entrepreneurial leaders or tech entrepreneurs. With our unique approach, we serve as a launchpad for tech talent to recognize their potential and confidently transform their expertise into impact.
